Artist Story
Painting the Memories of Home

For Evone Alawi, art is more than painting—it is a way of keeping home alive.

Born in Bethlehem, where ancient streets echo with history and vineyards stretch across the hillsides, she grew up surrounded by stories passed down through generations. Every stone, olive tree, and church bell became part of her earliest memories.

Life eventually led her to Jordan, joining millions of Palestinians who carry their homeland with them wherever they go. Though distance separated her from the landscapes of her childhood, it never diminished her connection to Palestine. Instead, it strengthened her desire to preserve its beauty through art.

Each canvas begins with a memory.

Sometimes it is a smiling young girl holding freshly harvested grapes beneath a vineyard. Other times it is the quiet dignity of an elderly woman, the timeless streets of Bethlehem, the golden skyline of Jerusalem, or the comforting warmth of a traditional Palestinian home.

Her paintings are filled with symbols of hope, faith, family, and resilience. Grapes represent abundance and the fertile land of Palestine. Olive branches speak of peace and perseverance. Mothers embody strength, while children remind us that every generation carries the promise of tomorrow.

For Evone, every brushstroke is an act of remembrance and celebration. She paints not only what Palestine looks like, but what it feels like—the warmth of family, the richness of tradition, and the enduring belief that identity lives on through culture and memory.

Her work invites viewers to travel beyond the canvas and into the heart of Palestine, where history, faith, and hope continue to flourish despite distance and time.

Through her art, Evone Alawi preserves stories that cannot be forgotten, ensuring that the beauty, spirit, and heritage of Palestine remain vibrant for generations to come.
